Daily Photos of San Juan Island, Washington, USA
Photo taken from atop Hillview Terrace looking northwest up San Juan Channel
This was once an every day occurance. San Juan Island use to have a natural deposit of gravel that was extracted and hauled up to the Frazier River in Vancouver BC. The gravel pit was one of the largest employers in the Islands for years. How things have changed.
There are times in these Islands that it just doesn’t get any better. Looking east across Griffin Bay, Dinner Island, San Juan Channel, Lopez Island and Mt Baker in the background.
I just can’t help myself. Looking out my window in the morning and you see the color through the trees and I just have to grab my camera and hop over the back fence. This shot was taken around 5:45 am this morning.
Turtleback seen across San Juan Channel from San Juan Island. Today was just one of those days, flat out gorgeous.
Purchased in 1979 by The Nature Conservancy, this 11 acre Island is open year around from 10 am to 4 pm daily. Groups of more than 6 require permission (360) 343-4344 ext 345. You will find more than 50 species of wildflowers….
There is just something about this time of the year with the rising and setting of the sun. Shot taken about 6:45 am.
I looked out my window this morning and saw the red in the sky. Hopped over the back fence and walked to the clearing and took this shot. Photo taken from the University of Washington property on San Juan Island. You can see the research vessel at the bottom of the photo. Views across San Juan Channel, Shaw Island to Mt. Baker
