Thank you for such an interesting view of the journey my great great grandparents must have had as they rowed across the straits with their infant daughter. They had met and married in San Francisco and then lived for a time on Orcas Island. My great grandmother was the first white female born on the island (as told through the family stories) but when the War of the Pigs took place they decided to row across to Victoria. They spent the first night outside Fort Victoria and then were allowed inside. They became some of Victoria's early pioneer community and my family still lives there today. I have often wondered what it might be like to have undertaken that journey - especially with a new baby. You've provided a view of my history - thanks so much!
